Panchayats urged to utilise NHRM, Suchitwa funds entirely

Kozhikode: The review meeting held at the collectorate on Saturday called upon all the panchayats to fully utilise the NRHM, Suchitwa mission and own funds to contain the outbreak of fever and dengue.

As many as 14 panchayats have not utilised the funds on time. A few panchayats, which used the funds, failed to record it on paper.

The list includes Cheruvannur, Kayakodi, Kodiyathur, Koodaranji, Kuruvatoor, Maniyur, Maruthonkara, Meppayur, Nochad, Omasserry, Panangad, Thiruvambady and Unnikulam.

Some panchayats do not have own funds whereas a few had not convened the sanitation committee in a single ward.

At the same time, several panchayats, including Ayancheri, Chemanchery, Balussery, Farook, Koduvally, Kuttiyadi, Edacheri and Perambra had make cent per cent use of the funds.

The district-in-charge minister M.K. Muneer who presided over the meeting said that there were 30 vacant posts of doctors in the district which would be filled on a war-footing.

The representative from Kayanna panchayat said that doctors were irregular in primary health centres and came late for duty. The panchayat president of Velam demanded that the authorities should check whether the licensed shops were processing garbage according to the rule.

The representative from Mavoor urged stringent action against the practice of dumping sewage waste on the road at night.

DMO Dr. Narayana Nayak said that ‘Seva gramam’ project should be started in 14 panchayats where it was not convened even in a ward. On July 12 and on the next Sunday, dry day would be observed in all the panchayats.

Meanwhile, 140 more fever- affected people reached the OP in hospitals on Saturday. One each suspected case of leptospirosis, dengue and four suspected cases of H1N1 were also reported.

Till now, dengue has caused seven deaths in the district, including four suspected. Deputy director of panchayat N. Surendran was present at the meeting.
