A total of 607 cases were settled in the Lok Adalat conducted at Coimbatore and The Nilgiris on Saturday. The amount settled through the disposal of these cases was to the tune of Rs. 5.95 crore.
In the Adalats conducted in Coimbatore and Pollachi a total of 3,980 cases were taken up and 258 of them were disposed. The total settlement made in these cases was Rs. 4.67 crore. This included 29 education and vehicle loans for which settlement was made to the tune of Rs. 20.47 lakh.
Of the 230 motor claims original petition cases taken up at the Adalat, 114 cases were disposed with settlement made to the tune of Rs. 2.24 crore. Six cases referred by the Debts Recovery Tribunal were settled for Rs. 1.66 crore. Settlement was also made in eight civil cases for Rs. 52.9 lakh.
While 3,022 telecom related cases were listed for the Adalat, only 98 of them were settled, with the total settlement of Rs. 1.93 lakh. The Fifth Additional District Judge of Coimbatore M.N. Senthil Kumar and retired Judges R. Dhandapani and S.A. Sriramulu disposed cases in Coimbatore.
In The Nilgiris, 731 cases were listed for the Adalat and 349 of them were disposed with the total settlements for Rs. 1.28 crore. Principal District Judge A.A. Nakkiran presided over the Adalat. Six benches – two each at Udhagamandalam and Gudalur and one each at Coonoor and Kotagiri – conducted the Adalats.
Settlement of Rs. 73.64 lakh was made in the 324 court pending cases taken up in the Adalat, while settlement of Rs. 54.33 lakh was made in the 25 pre-litigation cases.
