With the Opposition parties launching a tirade against the government over the increasing number of farmers’ suicide, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has launched a damage-control exercise by asking party leaders of all levels to reach out to farmers and instil confidence among them.

According to sources, KPCC president G. Parameshwara, has asked presidents of district and block units to visit vulnerable farmers in their region and instil confidence among them by explaining the steps taken by the government to bail them out from the agrarian crisis. It is learnt that Dr. Parameshwara has planned to visit Mandya district, where the highest number of farmers’ suicide have been reported in the past three months.

Delegation to CM

Atmananda, Congress leader from Mandya district, told The Hindu that the party local unit would take a delegation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with a request to convert the short-term loans of farmers into long-term ones.
