The Crime Branch (CB) probing the case related to the missing of a city-based woman from Dubai in 2005 has approached the court seeking permission for conducting polygraph on Devayani, the prime witness in the case.
According to officials, the agency has filed a petition in this regard with the Mattancherry judicial First Class Magistrate. Devayani has already expressed her willingness to undergo any scientific test.
Earlier in June, the Court recorded the statement of Devayani who has emerged as prime witness in the case of mysterious disappearance of Smitha, a newly-wed from an apartment in Dubai 10 years ago.
She was taken into custody last week from Kannur and has been kept at a secret location after she expressed apprehensions over threats to her life.
Devayani was initially presumed to be an accomplice of Sabu Antony, Smitha’s husband and prime suspect in the case, after it came to light that they had a live-in relation for almost two years before his marriage. But her custodial interrogation changed that presumption as she emerged as a key witness.
The turning point
Her statement that she had been witness to a bloody altercation between Smitha and Sabu on the day she went missing proved to be a turning point in the investigation.
As part of the investigation, the sleuths had also collected statements from Sony and Simon, two friends of Sabu.
The prime witness in the case, Devayani, has already expressed her willingness to undergo any scientific test.
