Passion for filmmaking
Following her debut in director Vishnuvardhan’s Arrambam , more than a year ago, Akshara Gowda decided to complete her engineering education and then pursue her passion for filmmaking. “I went to the New York Film Academy to do a one-year course in filmmaking. The icing on the cake was a two-month internship with Shekhar Kapur during the making of a pilot episode for TV series Damien , which was shot in Canada. The course and the experience with the acclaimed director have given me a good perspective of the film industry. As for signing up of films is concerned, I am reading through some scripts which were offered to me just after Arrambam . I will be in Chennai in August to host the Gollapudi Srinivas Awards show, when I hope to catch up with Tamil filmmakers,” says the Mumbai-based Akshara.
Bollywood beckons
After doing several villainous roles in films such as Kandahar, Thuppakki, Nerungi Vaa Muthamidathe and Puthiya Thiruppangal , Delhi-based south Indian actor Gautam Kurup has landed his first Bollywood film, Bhanwarey . “It is a dark comedy, produced and directed by Shaurya Singh who also plays the hero. Set in old Delhi and the early Nineties, the story revolves around three guys who embark on several adventures. The cast includes Karan Thakur, Jashan Singh Kohli and Priyanka Shukla,” says Gautam, who is also a consultant and coordinator for south Indian film production companies for their shooting schedules in the North.
An anti-hero next
A debut role in a Gautham Menon film is something every aspiring actor would ask for and Sujo Mathew was no different. He played the role of Deepak, one of the three investigating officers under Vivek in Yennai Arindhaal . “It surely gave me an introduction in Kollywood. This led to a full-length role as an anti-hero in Oru Kuppai Kathai directed by Dinesh, who also plays the lead. Before the start of the film, I went through a 20-day training with Naveena Koothupattarai which helped me a lot,” says Sujo. Oru Kuppai Kathai is scheduled for an August release.
