He’s the voice behind superhit songs such as ‘Kutti Puli Koottam’ ( Thuppakki ), ‘Sil Sil’ ( Arinthum Ariyamalum ) and ‘Kalakka Povathu Yaaru’ ( Vasool Raja MBBS ). After a decade of playback singing, Satyan is debuting as a music director with Meera Kathiravan’s Vizhithiru, starring Kreshna.

“I complimented Meera Kathiravan on Facebook after watching his Aval Peyar Thamizharasi,” says Satyan. “That interaction developed into friendship. At that time, I was predominantly composing jingles. And when I composed a song, I pitched it to him. He liked it so much that he signed me on for Vizhithiru .”

Satyan says most of his musical learning has come from observing other composers during recordings. “I’m like Eklavya in that respect. If I learnt arranging from Ilaiyaraaja sir, I learnt programming from Yuvan.” Admitting that he has had no formal education in music, he says, “I admire the atmosphere C. Sathya creates in his studio and Harris Jayaraj’s dedication when he composes.”

He has used his rapport with music directors in his first film album. For the first time in Tamil cinema, each of the seven songs in Vizhithiru has been sung by a different music director. “Santhosh Narayanan, Thaman, T. Rajendar, G.V. Prakash, Vijay Antony, C. Sathya and Alphonse have sung them. Apart from being a novel concept, I felt I could learn a lot from them as I enter a new phase in life.”
