160 cattle seized from Vadodara's Dahod

VADODARA: Acting on tip-offs, the Dahod and Panchmahal police have impounded three trucks at different times carrying cattle to abattoirs. As many as 160 cattle including 14 in dead ones were seized by the police with the help of animal welfare activists.
The series of seizures began on Thursday evening when the first truck was impounded near the Piplod bypass on the Dahod-Godhra highway.
This followed the seizure of another truck at the same spot in the night.
As many as 57 cattle including one dead bovine were seized by the police in the first truck. From the second truck, the police seized 48 cattle and it transpired that 11 of them were dead. It is believed that the cattle died as they were kept in bad conditions and may not have been fed.
On Friday, the Godhra police seized a truck carrying cattle near Paravadi. The truck was loaded with 5 cattle out of which two had died. The crew of the truck claimed that they were going to Mumbai.
Police sources and animal welfare activists said that the cattle may have been loaded from Rajasthan. The exact destination of the cattle and who ordered them is still being investigated. The activists had more tip- offs regarding the movement of cattle and said that they were working on these with the help of the police.
