INDORE: Most students admitted to the 18th batch of post graduate programme in management (PGP) at Indian Institute of Management, Indore, (IIM-I) are from engineering background.
Registration of selected students for the academic year 2015-16 began on Friday. Inauguration and orientation programmes will be held on Friday and Saturday.
Registration programme commenced with welcome address by director of the institute professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan.
He mentioned various initiatives the Institute to streamline the quality of academic education at the institute and also quality of life% on campus.
He noted that IIM, Indore, has always maintained diversity. Students from various backgrounds such as commerce, arts, humanities and science are taking admission in Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), who in their fourth year, study with the PGP batch. PGP students are mostly from engineering background, thus background diversity is also created. Prof. Krishnan said the institute has been strengthening its industry relations and is now hiring professors, who have extensive work experience and can guide students in their projects as well. He congratulated students and motivated them to stay committed to their course.
Following Professor Krishnan's address, chief guest co-founder, CEO and managing director, Head Held High Services, Madan Padaki in his address shared experiences from his graduating years and work at various companies. He said graduating years were the best two years of his life. He encouraged students to work with passion, learn more outside class, make friends, seek the best in others and ask questions. He said just like intelligence quotient and emotional quotient, passion quotient and curiosity quotient played a major role in success. With advancement in technology, this is the best time to be in India and learn new things, Padaki said.
Senior director finance, MSD Pharmaceuticals, Giri Giridhar will interact with students on Saturday.
