The country is undergoing a serious phase. The need of the hour is catching up with the developments taking place world over, said Mylswamy Annadurai, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru.
The Centre and the State Governments are allotting funds, but real development will take place only with the local initiatives and the wholehearted involvement of local people, Dr. Annadurai, said while speaking at the Graduation Day at the Vinayaka Missions University here recently.
The economy of the country is linked to globalisation. There are apprehensions about this model, but the fact is that each of us today is connected, thanks to the technology, to globalisation. To catch up with the development in the field of Science and Technology, the country need to have collaboration with other institutions within in India and abroad to achieve that goal, he said.
The country needed trained manpower in all the areas. Trained manpower is the real asset of any nation. As future leaders in their respective fields, the younger generation is required not only to realise their own dreams, but also to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of millions who are not as privileged as educated youths.
Dr. Annadurai said that the present generation is immensely exposed to the advances in Science and Technology and is better equipped to create a knowledge based technology driven society. Over and above the economic progress, it is important to have a peaceful and happy society.
The strength of the nation is judged from its human resources, Dr. Annadurai said and added that the Indian economy has improved significantly and the government’s emphasis to improve the base and quality of education is clear for the massive national programme like Universal Right to Education, complete financial support for the first generation graduate.
Crucial phase
“The country is still passing through a very crucial phase of development due to rapid increase in population. Our leaders are faced with the challenges to reconcile between poverty and plenty; development and corruption; tradition and modernism and most important for the urban and rural divide. It is the responsibility of every countryman to ensure that each and every Indian has access to basic needs,” Dr. Annadurai added.
A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of the university, presided over the Graduation Day.
V. R. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, presented the report highlighting the various achievements of the students.
Dr. Annadurai handed over degrees to 3,163 qualified graduates – 49 Ph.Ds, 103 gold medallists, 77 silver medallists, and 52 bronze medallists.
