Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, And Justin Bieber To Headline Billboard's First Ever Music Festival

Weeks after the initial announcement of the upcoming event and then the subsequent teasing of which stars would be a part of its first ever music festival, Billboard magazine has finally announced their almost-full lineup, and it looks like one that is not to be missed. Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, and The Weeknd have all signed on to headline, and the publication promises a “very special performance” by Justin Bieber. What that means isn’t clear, but it could be a sign that the troubled pop star is ready to find his way back into the spotlight and has new music coming soon. There are still a few names left to be announced, and from the look of the festival's poster, at least one of the artists left to be released looks to be a big one.

The inaugural Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival is set for the weekend of August 22 and 23, when the group of 40 or so artists are going to make their way to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, located on Long Island. Apparently there will also be a number of events and performances actually on the beach as well as in the theater, which makes this event feel more like a festival and less like a radio station’s annual show (or the like).

Organized in partnership with Live Nation, the festival is in good hands and off to a strong start, with big-name headliners, a great location, and sponsors like Sour Patch Kids, Mastercard, and Nordstrom Rack. According to a statement released by Billboard, those who use Citi cards linked with CitiWallet will have access to a presale beginning this Monday, while the rest of the general public will be able to purchase tickets beginning on Thursday, July 16th.

One look at those headlining shows that this really is a festival all about the Hot 100, the weekly chart that measures the one hundred most popular songs in the country. Those at the top of the bill have a combined 197 entries on the chart—a number that is surely bolstered by Wayne and Minaj, as the two have placed over 150 songs on the tally in their careers.
