PUNE: Four unidentified robbers beat up and robbed a 23-year-old MBA student from Manipur of his gold chain and smart phone collectively worth Rs 85,000 early on Tuesday at Chandani Chowk.
The Manipuri student, Ngamba Sapam, (23), who resides in Bibvewadi, has lodged a complaint with the Kothrud police station.
Harshal Kadam, sub-inspector of the Kothrud police station told TOI that Sapam was targeted around 5am when he was riding his motorcycle and was on his way home.
"He had gone to Karvenagar to meet his friend on Monday night," Kadam said.
Sapam left his friend's house early on Tuesday and decided to take the Katraj-Dehu road bypass to reach Bibvewadi. "He was at Chandani Chowk around 5am and was about to take the bypass when two men who had followed him on a motorcycle hit him and forced him to stop," Kadam said.
They were joined by two other men riding a motorcycle. "All four beat up Sapam with their hands and pulled out the ignition key of his motorcycle. They threw it away so that he could not start his motorcycle," Kadam said.
They snatched his smart phone and gold chain and fled on their motorcycles. "We have registered an offence of robbery and launched a search to trace the suspects," Kadam added.
24-yr-old, friend robbed on Tilak Road

A 24-year-old trader from Solapur and his friend were robbed of their cash, gold chain and a cellphone collectively worth Rs 51,000 by three unidentified men on Tilak Road on Thursday night.
Sudarshan Kshirsagar of Solapur has lodged a complaint with the Swargate police who said that on Kshirsagar and his friend Suresh Duyankar were walking towards Swargate bus stand after having dinner at a restaurant at 10pm.
"When they reached Hirabaug Chowk, three men on a motorcycle stopped them," said S A Kenjale, assistant police inspector of the Swargate police station.
They threatened them and snatched Kshirsagar's gold chain, cellphone and Rs 8,900 in cash from both and fled. "We checked the motorcycle's registration number given by the complainant, but it was a fake number," Kenjale added.
