Aster DM Healthcare group donates Dh1.4m for Nepal quake victims

Aster DM Healthcare group donates fund to rebuild 500 houses in Nepal, which was devastated in a massive earthquake recently.

Dr Azaad Mooppen, Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare and Aster DM Foundation, is offering a helping hand to rebuild life of some of his Nepali employees affected by the quake.

Dr Mooppen handed over a cheque of [Nepalese] Rs40million (Dh1.4m) to Nepal Ambassador to UAE Dhananjay Jha.

Of the 500 houses, 23 will be for Aster DM Healthcare employees. More than 100 out of 13,000 employees at DM Healthcare hail from Nepal.

“Nepal and its people are close to our heart. From our own ranks, we have 23 employees affected by the devastating quake. We would like to thank a number of employees at Aster DM Healthcare who came together and contributed to the fund,” said Dr Mooppen.

Meanwhile, Jha, said: “We are extremely grateful to Dr Azad Mooppen and his Foundation for coming forward to help the grieving Nepali families affected by the earthquake.”

Shamsudeen Bin Mohideen, Chairman, Regency Group, who attended the ceremony, said such initiatives during the holy month of Ramadan is an inspiration for others to follow.

“It is a good gesture from Dr Azad Mooppen, our Chairman and Managing Director. I have lost my 21-year-old brother in the quake,” said Purnima, a Nepali employee of Aster DM Healthcare.

Dr Mooppen also vowed to recruit more Nepali staff in the future to help them.
