Scores of people in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district Thursday staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of killers who according to them are roaming free even after committing the ‘murder’ of a female. The protesters told CNS that few days back few people from the neighbourhood at Redwani Payeen attacked an elderly woman Shameema Bano after the two families developed animosity over a piece of land. “They tore her clothes, molested her and thrashed her ruthlessly that forced her to end her life,” said a protester. They alleged despite filing a formal case, police have not arrested the ‘killers’. “It was not a murder but suicide case. The postmortem revealed that woman has consumed poison but still we have been investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the facts what prompted the deceased to take such an extreme step,” Station House Officer Qaimou told CNS.
