Gattu’s next is a musical with newcomers

Looks like writer-director Abhishek Kapoor has had his share of stars after Fitoor. The Indianised adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, Great Expectations, features Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif as the young lovers and Tabu, who has replaced Rekha, as the desi Miss Havisham. After wrapping up this film, the 43-yearold director has already started scripting his next project, B. Baaghi is a GenX musical with an all-new cast. “The film will be heavy on music and Abhishek will be launching fresh talent. He wants to nurture promising actors for this youth-based film,” the director’s spokesperson told Mirror. Earlier, Gattu, as he is fondly known, had convinced Farhan Akhtar to face the camera for Rock On!! which he directed. The actor-producer is now prepping up for the sequel but Gattu is not a part of Rock On 2.

He also gave Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao their big Bollywood break in Kai Po Che! which was an adaptation of the Chetan Bhagat bestseller, 3 Mistakes of My Life. “In his next film too he wants to produce future stars,” adds the spokesperson.

The film’s title is similar to Sajid Nadiadwala’s action flick, Baaghi, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff. “But the two films have nothing in common. Gattu chose this title since the musical subject is close to his heart. It will be his most ambitious project to date,” says the spokesperson. The film will go on floors after the release of Fitoor. Casting is currently underway.
