NASHIK: Mayor Ashok Murtadak and deputy mayor Gurmeet Bagga reviewed the health and medical facilities of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday ahead of the Kumbh Mela and asked the officials to conduct such meetings after every three days. They asked them to form an emergency squad to survey homes and private hospitals for contagious diseases.

Malaria and dengue cases are being regularly reported since January, with three cases of dengue in June and four of malaria in July. It was decided in the meeting that the medical and health department would give a review to the mayor every week. The threat of swine flu cases has increased with pilgrims pouring into Nashik ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
“The divisional sanitary inspectors should focus on cleanliness and health issues as they have a major responsibility of these. Door-to-door surveys for dengue suspects should be carried out. Keep in touch with the local corporators for the survey,” said Murtadak.
Deputy mayor Bagga said, “The health officer should take a review meeting of all the health employees once in a week. With the Kumbh Mela scheduled next month, the work load on the sanitary employees will increase but the work has to be done.”
An assistant health officer said that they would start the cleaning of Ramkund and Sadhugram one week before the Kumbh. Some of the employees to be deployed for Kumbh works will be shifted to the health department for sanitation purpose.
