ET BureauMUMBAI: Online matchmaking portal Shaadi’s founder Anupam Mittal has stepped down as the CEO of the company to focus on corporate development and new businesses, which will include international expansion.
Gourav Rakshit, who was chief operating officer, has taken over as CEO at Shaadi, which has also beefed up its top management. “Day to day responsibilities will now move to Gourav, while I still continue to guide the company with a focus on corporate development and acquisitions,” said Mittal, whose People Group also includes mobile media firm Mauj and app store Mobango with group revenues exceeding Rs 300 crore in FY15.
The move comes after People Group merged its realty portal Makaan with Proptiger. Shaadi is also looking to raise a new round of funding of at least $100 million (Rs 634 crore) to finance its expansion plans and pave the way for exit of investors such as WestBridge Capital and Silicon Valley Bank.
Shaadi has also roped in Aditya Save, former head of Marico’s global centre of excellence for digital and media as chief marketing officer, replacing Abhishek Maloo, who will join Mittal in the corporate development team. Shaadi has also hired Ketan Doshi, an IIT-Bombay and Stanford graduate who used to be director of product development at BMC Software as chief technology officer.
Both Save and Doshi will report to Rakshit, an IIM-Ahmedabad MBA who has held various positions at Shaadi since October 2007 after working at Infosys, Planetasia and Nestle. Shaadi competes with Matrimony, market leader in the online matchmaking space, besides Info Edge-owned Jeevansaathi and SimplyMarry, owned by publishers of The Economic Times.
