Hamirpur, July 9
Congress leaders here are on the toes for the first-ever out of capital meeting of the HPCC tomorrow. Party sources said the agenda of the meeting would be to decide the course of action for the coming local bodies and HPCC state executive polls. Allegations and counter-allegations could storm the session, which is expected to last for three hours.
The party was on the backfoot in the district and nothing had been done to strengthen it in the past many years, resulting in its defeat in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls. The Hamirpur parliamentary seat was in the hands of the BJP and even the experiment to field candidates from the BJP background had proved fatal for the Congress.
The attempt of HPCC president Sukhvinder Singh Shuku to hold the HPCC meeting here was seen as a step towards retaining his position in the HPCC and to infuse in the party cadre the feeling that he still could manage the organisation.—OC
