ANANTNAG: A cloudburst caused massive damage to residential and government buildings in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district last night.

A cloudburst caused massive damage to residential and government buildings in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district last night.

Two houses were washed away while extensive damage was caused to the trout fish hatchery, the largest in Kashmir. No no loss of life was reported in the flashfloods following the cloudburst.

Official reports said two houses were washed away and more than 50 houses damaged in villages adjoining Kokernag, including Bidder and Zalangam. “A car was washed away in the flashfloods,” said a senior official of the district administration.

He said several structures of the Kokernag Development Authority suffered damage. “A botanical garden developed by the authority suffered extensive damage in the flashfloods,” said the official. — OC
