Reasons behind weak arches
Weak arches could be the main reason for chronic pain in the calves and soles of the feet, further straining the knees and hip. Eventually, the ill effect would transfer to the lower back, neck and shoulders too. The strain in the arches is mainly due to the lack of toning in the ligaments of the feet or due to the lack of strength around the supporting muscles.
Tips to care for feet arches
-
Consciously avoid inversion and rotation of the foot.
- Root the centre of the heel and the ball of the toe to the ground, thus creating a gentle arch in the feet.
- Observe the muscles of the feet lifting upward while the bones are grounding downwards.
- Observe an immediate sense of lightness, firm connect to the ground and a feeling of stability.
A targeted asana practice will help build strength and alignment of the feet. On a more subtle level, it will also improve other body functions like breathing, blood circulation, health of the vital organs and create an overall feeling of balance and well being.
