Globally, BlueAir is one of the most recognisable names when it comes to Air purifiers. Their products are sold in over 50 countries around the world and they have now concentrated efforts on India. The company has launched three models: 270 E, 450 E and 650 E. This review is for the 650 E.

The 650 E is the Swedish company’s flagship offering for India. It is ideal for larger rooms (65 square meters/698 square feet) and has wheels that make it easy to move around. Setting up the unit is fairly simple: you just need to install three sliding filters (one on each side and one on top) and you’re all set. On the side is a control panel window with a display. It shows the air quality, smell level, a timer as well as fan speed for easy configuration.

Under the display is an LED light that indicates when your filters need replacing. Inside the enclosure (towards the bottom) is a large fan that sucks in air and pushes it out from the sides and top — after passing it through the filters. On first run, the fan runs at high speed to clear out pollutants — this is where it makes the most noise. After a few minutes, the fan slows down and becomes so silent that you’ll think that it has turned off ! The automatic fan speed function kicks in every time the purifier detects pollutants or smell. The fan runs at high speed to quickly clean the air and then settles back down.

The HEPASilent filtration technology combines electrostatic and mechanical filtration and claims to capture 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.1 micron in size. In our usage we noticed an improvement in the air quality within a few hours of placing the purifier in the room. We were also impressed with the speed at which the purifier got rid of any smells from the room. Plus, it only consumes 35W of power while running silently.

What makes the BlueAir 650 E stand apart from the competition is the clean air delivery rate: more than 450 cubic feet per minute. Others are typically 350 cubic feet per minute or less. This means that BlueAir will clean the air faster than any other competing product for a given room size. The 650 E is one of the few air purifiers available in India that is ideal for large rooms. However, the steep price will be a turn off for most users.
