3-day Krishi Mela begins tomorrow

A three-day Krishi Mela and an exhibition will be organized by the primary cooperative society of Amargol, beginning Friday, at the Navodaya Convent School in Navanagar to mark its centenary.

HUBBALLI: A three-day Krishi Mela and an exhibition will be organized by the primary cooperative society of Amargol, beginning Friday, at the Navodaya Convent School in Navanagar to mark its centenary.
Mallikarjun Horakeri, president of the society, told reporters here on Wednesday that the mela will have 180 stalls. "To educate farmers, we will conduct a conference on contemporary agriculture as well as awareness camps on seeds.
Agricultural experts and scientists will take part in the conference."
He said horticulture, sericulture, farming as well as other agricultural industries will display their products at the mela. "Farmers of Dharwad and neighbouring districts are expected to participate in it. All farmers' associations and APMCs have shown an interest in being part of the mela,"he added.
More than 50,000 visitors are expected to throng the mela each day. Free meals %will be given to all visitors and a folk %music performance will be presented by %local talents the premises to liven up the ambience, said Horakeri. MLA Arvind Bellad said the fair will be inaugurated by minister for cooperation HS Mahadeva Prasad. Leader of the opposition in the assembly Jagadish Shettar, minister for agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda and district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will also participate in it.
The primary cooperative society of Amargol was established in 1915. It now has 750 members on its rolls.
