Yeshwantpur–Karwar train was stopped near Edakumari for more than four hours on Wednesday morning following a landslip between Edakumari and Sirivagilu in Sakleshpur taluk.
The train was stopped around 4.45 a.m. after railway staff received information about the landslip. Anil Kumar, Public Relations Officer of the Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway (SWR), told The Hindu that the track was cleared and train service resumed around 8.45 a.m.
With this, movement of trains in the Western Ghats stretch has been affected twice in the last one month following landslips, leaving passengers in a quandary.
Derailment
On June 15, a couple of coaches of Karwar/Kannur–Bengaluru Express derailed near Sirivagilu following a landslip. The Railways had to make alternative arrangements for passengers.
As landslips are common in the Western Ghats during the rainy season, the Railways has put nets in some locations to avoid damage to railway tracks. The entire ghat stretch along the tracks, however, has not been covered by nets.
This is the second such incident in the Western Ghats in the last one month
