Bukhari inspects macadamisation work at IG Road; Says Rs 1000 cr road projects approved for J&K under CRF

SRINAGAR, July 8: Minister for PWD (R&B), Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today said massive macadamisation programme has begun across the State with the improvement in weather conditions. He said 800 km road length is being black-topped on war-footing and work is simultaneously going on at around 100 sites across the State.
The Minister visited IG Road today to personally inspect and monitor the black-topping work going on in the area for the past couple of days.
The Minister said due to the extensive damage caused to the road network during September 2014 floods, the R&B Department has adopted fresh specifications for upgradation of roads, where the tarmacadam depth is between two to four inches, depending on the condition of the road. He said to ensure accountability and productive use of the State resources, the Government has also adopted new norms in R&B Department, according to which the contractor would be responsible for the maintenance of the roads for three years.
Appreciating the work of R&B engineers, the Minister said that the department would recognize the services of the dedicated engineers with adequate rewards. He said even the contractors whose performance is upto the mark would get letter of appreciation from the department.

He said besides approving Rs 3500 crore Ring Road projects for Srinagar and Jammu, the Government of India has recently approved projects worth Rs 1000 crore under Central Road Fund (CRF). He said Parimpora-Salamabad (URI) and Jammu-Chakan da Bagh (Poonch) roads are being upgraded under Bharat Mala programme.
The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer R&B, S K Razdan and other senior officers of the R&B Department.
