PARLIAMENT ON POINT - BENNETT

MBABANE – Businessman Walter Bennett has said the current team of legislators is maturing as shown by the manner in which they have highlighted the matter surrounding the Swaziland Revenue Authority (SRA).

“Parliament has proved itself to be maturing by pointing out such a critical matter and we thank them for that. It is apparent that they have also had personal experiences with the SRA because there was a lot of emotion involved during the debate.

“There is really a need to look into the matter that was raised by the MPs.
“There is what we call arrogance and having a heavy hand, this is clearly what happens when delegating an authority without properly regulating it.
“We, as citizens, are not totally against paying tax, because it is an offering to the country like people offer in church, but regulations are paramount,” commented Bennett.

He also pointed out that an organisation must entail qualities of transparency, accountability and integrity, and SRA was no different.
“Members of Parliament have outdone themselves in raising this motion, bateka yona sibili,” emphasised Bennett.
