The Washington Wizards made yet another move Tuesday to bolster their bench by reportedly agreeing to terms with Brooklyn Nets swingman Alan Anderson to a one-year, $4 million deal.
TNT Sports first reported the two sides were close Tuesday afternoon, while Yahoo! Sports reported the terms of the agreement. The deal was later confirmed by Anderson’s agent, Mark Bartelstein.
After missing out on former Indiana Pacers forward David West, who signed with the San Antonio Spurs this week, Anderson will reportedly receive part of the Wizards’ mid-level exception.
Anderson, who will be 33 in October, spent the past two seasons with the Nets. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard should be a solid backup to guard Bradley Beal, who missed 19 games last season with injuries. Anderson averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 74 games last season, making 19 starts.
Anderson became an unrestricted free agent after the former Michigan State swingman did not accept his $1.3 million player option. Anderson has played in parts of six seasons in the NBA, including stops with the Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors and the Nets. He broke into the league with the Hornets in 2005 and played two seasons in Charlotte before spending four years overseas and in the NBA D-League.
The Wizards have made a bevy of moves since the NBA’s free agency period opened last week. Despite losing forward Paul Pierce to the Los Angeles Clippers, Anderson is now the latest wing player to be signed or acquired via trade by Washington. The Wizards have also reportedly traded for Jared Dudley from the Milwaukee Bucks and signed guard Gary Neal in addition to drafting Kansas’ Kelly Oubre Jr.
Moves cannot officially announced until Thursday, when the league sets its salary cap.
