BHEL gives awards to six vendors

They are chosen based on performance and quality

Six vendors who supply castings, forgings and raw material for valves to the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, have been awarded for their outstanding performance during 2014-15.

A.V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL Tiruchi, presented the awards at the two-day vendor meet which began at Welding Research Institute Auditorium on Monday.

The award-winners were selected on the basis of their contribution towards new product development, consistent high performance, and excellence in quality. They were presented with a shield and a certificate.

Mr. Krishnan said the meet provided an opportunity for both BHEL and its business partners to understand the requirements and constraints of each other. Citing the “positive trend” in the power sector, Mr. Krishnan called for more process improvements activities to meet customer expectations in terms of quality, cost, and cycle time.

Earlier, the vendor meet was inaugurated by S. Gopinath, Executive Director, Power Plant Piping Unit and BHEL Piping Centre. Mr. Gopinath said there was an urgent need to re-visit the manufacturing processes and technologies in view of the present challenging business environment in the power sector.

Underlining the importance of delivering quality products at competitive prices to customers, he called for close cooperation between BHEL and its suppliers.

Over 50 participants from across the country are taking part in the meet to discuss issues related to castings, forgings, and raw material requirements, procurement procedures, quality, and shipping needs with respect to valves.

The awards were given in two categories. In the Casting Vendors category, Peekay Steel Castings, Kozhikode, was given the New Product Development Award,

Aruna Alloy Steel, Madurai, the Consistent Performer award and Coimbatore Super Alloys, Coimbatore, the Excellence in Quality award.

In the Forging and Raw material category, Bharat Forge, Pune, was given the New Product Development Award, Thillai Engineering, Chennai, the Consistent Performer Award and Acme Forgings, Rajkot, the Excellence in Quality award.
