The police are making inquiries with a data collector from a Mumbai-based real estate search portal for flying a drone in Chembur without any prior permission. According to the police, the detained person, with the aid of the drone, was taking pictures allegedly without permission near the TISS campus in Chembur Monday afternoon.

Sangramsinh Nishandar, DCP (Zone VI), said preliminary investigations revealed the detained person had been working with Housing.com for more than six months and had hired a car  Monday that was registered by Housing.com. “The employee was taking visuals to upload it on their website. The drone is a remote-controlled device and has a GoPro device attached to the bottom. We have recovered three pictures on the camera so far and nothing is objectionable. There are no pictures of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC),” he said.

According to Nishandar, the drone hovered at a height of around 20 feet for about two minutes and was clicking pictures from three different angles of a patch of land near TISS that has an under-construction building, a swimming pool and a constructed building. The police have seized the device, manufactured by a company called CJI, and are making inquiries regarding the other times he had flown the device and how he purchased it.

Mumbai has rules. No one can take pictures from such devices without prior permission from the police,” Nishandar said.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Trombay police by an assistant professor working with TISS. An investigating officersaid the video shows the detained employee got out of the vehicle and then flying the device. However, the camera does not pan up to the drone and stays focused on the suspect. “The suspect brings down the drone and in a hurried manner leaves from the spot in the car,” said the officer.
