Pearl Puri: Gujaratis are extremely helpful

His dad wasn’t keen on letting him pursue acting as career, but Pearl V Puri did convince him and shifted base to tinseltown to chase his dreams. Inspite of a long struggle, Pearl didn’t lose hope and finally he has made it to showbiz as he bagged the lead role of Abeer in 'Phir Bhi Na Maane… Badtameez Dil'. Pearl was in town recently for promotional trip and as we met him an hour prior to leaving for Mumbai, he looked exhausted.He got chatty with us trying his hands on guitar and offered us salted almonds and green tea. Excerpts from a chat:
Praise for Gujarat
Gujaratis are the most helpful people I’ve met. I was driving from Delhi to Mumbai and my SUV had a punctured tyre near Himmatnagar. I met a guy at a garage who asked me to take a spare-wheel which he had, drive till the nearest car showroom where I could get an original tyre spare. I went back to Himmatnagar, returned his spare wheel to him and handed him some money which he wasn’t willing to take. I was touched by the trust he’d put in me and helped me.

Love for acting
Acting has always been my passion. I hail from Agra. Back there too I was part of talent hunts and did many print campaigns. Post that, I convinced my parents to allow me to become an actor. As I shifted to Mumbai, I did many TVCs and auditioned for movies and TV soaps. When it seemed difficult to realise my dreams, my father asked me to shuttle between Agra and Mumbai depending on the work. I did want to do movies but when 'Phir Bhi Na Maane... Badtameez Dil' came my way, I was more than convinced as I couldn’t have got a better offer to launch myself as an actor.
Role talk
I am enjoying the role of Abeer, a rich guy with immense passion for music. He is rude and arrogant, impulsive and over-reacts without thinking of the other person’s point of view. I relate to this character in terms of his passion for music — I share a similar passion for acting. And this role is as good as a potboiler and romantic movie — my character is a rockstar who’s got 10 songs to lipsync to.
