Shahid Kapoor’s emotional speech at his wedding

There is no wedding happening here. The venue is decorated for birthday celebrations. Aaj guruji ka birthday hai,” DT was told when we reached what we had learned was Shahid and Mira’s sangeet venue.
Contrary to reports, the mehendi and sangeet finally didn’t happen at Mira’s family’s farmhouse in Chattarpur, but in another farmhouse close to the Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) ashram there.But the ‘birthday’ turned out to be just a smokescreen, as guests soon began arriving and the revelry began in full swing. Shahid and Mira’s pre-wedding functions had kicked off.

As soon as Shahid arrived at Delhi airport at around 4pm on Monday, he led media persons on a wild goose chase around the capital. First, he reportedly went to meet his friend in Delhi, and thereafter, proceeded to meet the bride’s family. He then also met his guruji from RSSB and sought his blessings, and then proceeded to the sangeet venue.

Couple’s entry amid hoots
The sangeet ceremony was held on Monday evening, where Shahid and Mira arrived hand in hand. Shahid wore a maroon bandhgala and jacket and Mira was in a bright yellow lehenga and backless choli.

Apart from Shahid’s family – Pankaj Kapur, Supriya Pathak, Neelima Azim and his step siblings – there were just a couple of friends from the groom’s side. “Most guests were from the bride’s family and every guest was given instructions to not click pictures,” shared Reshma, the mehendiwali who came all the way from Balli Maran, Chandni Chowk, to do the bride’s mehendi. The decor was pristine white with ethnic elements. Giving it a perfect filmi touch were posters of the bride and groom with taglines like ‘Mera Saiyyan Superstar’.


Once the music and dance was in full swing, ‘Shira’, as the bride and groom were christened by the guests, made a rocking entry on stage amid loud cheers and hoots. The couple danced together to Chittiyan Kalaiyan, and at one point, Shahid went down on his knee as Mira continued to sway.

From Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai, Tum Se Hi to Is This Love, songs from all of Shahid’s films were played. But it wasn’t all about just film music. Dholwallahs from Lakshmi Nagar were invited to give the evening a Punjabi punch. Shahid also gave an emotional speech in which he thanked his parents and welcomed Mira into his family.
‘We’re trying not to show our excitement’
The Gurgaon hotel where Shahid and his family are staying had begun to see action since early on Monday afternoon. By the evening, everyone had dressed up and was leaving for the sangeet in turns – after Pankaj and Supriya left for Chhatarpur, they were followed by Neelima Azeem, Ishaan Khattar, Dolly Ahluwalia, Bosco Martis and Masaba Gupta. A hotel staff member, without realising that he was speaking to the press, told DT, “Pankaj and Supriya ji bought some gifts from our gift shop before leaving. We’ve had 50 arrivals since morning. The staff is used to celebs, but we’re all very excited about the wedding and are trying to not let our expressions give away anything.”
