Cruiserweight titlist Marco Huck, aiming for a bit of history in his next fight, has begun preparing for his mandatory defense against Krzysztof Glowacki on Aug. 14 (Spike TV) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Huck (38-2-1, 26 KOs), 30, of Germany, will be fighting in the United States for the first time when he makes his 14th title defense against Poland’s 28-year-old Glowacki (24-0, 15 KOs). As long as Huck wins or draws, he will break the tie he is in with Johnny Nelson for most cruiserweight title defenses.

Huck, who recently hooked up with a new trainer in Don House of Las Vegas, is in Las Vegas training for the fight.

“I have been in Las Vegas since June 25th. I used the first weekend to adjust to the nine-hour time difference,” Huck said. “My coach and I began working full [time] last Monday.”

By the time Huck fights it will have been almost one year since his last bout -- a unanimous decision against Mirko Larghetti on Aug. 30 -- mainly due to his split with longtime promoter Sauerland Event. Huck founded his own promotional company, which will work with Lou DiBella for his appearance on the Premier Boxing Champions card headlined by the heavyweight bout between former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) and former cruiserweight titlist Steve Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs).

Huck said he was not concerned with ring rust from the long layoff.

“I have kept myself fit over the last 10 months to ensure that I don’t lose my stamina, hence I was able to get back into the training rhythm immediately,” said Huck, who said his only difficulty is getting used to the intense Las Vegas summer heat. “I am drinking more than eight liters of water a day. I doubt that a lot of European fighters would opt to come to the desert to prepare themselves. But I am certain that the burning sun and the dry desert will add to my firepower, which Glowacki will ultimately get to feel come Aug. 14th.”
