July 3-Sept. 27

Even though she drew in simple brush and ink, fashion illustrator Miyuki Morimoto breathed life into the female characters that she drew to show the latest fashion trends in Japan. She began her career as a freelance illustrator in 1983, and later shifted from sketching in pen to the distinctive style of fashion drawing that she is recognized for today.

For 30 years, her illustrations have been popular across the media. Fans would have likely seen her work while flipping fashion magazines such as Vogue Japan and Olive, others perhaps know her better through a collaboration with the 1990s pop group Pizzicato Five.

Now, two years since her early death at age 54, the Yayoi Museum presents the work that she left in her studio, some of which was made decades ago. The museum has also scheduled discussions about Morimoto with other artists, including art director Mitsuo Shindo.
