CORRECTIONAL CHOIR TO COMPETE FOR E650 000 IN SA

MBABANE – Standard Bank 2015 Choral Music Championship winners, His Majesty’s Correctional Services will compete in a competition that has a grand prize of E650 000.


The choir under the leadership of His Majesty’s Correctional Services Commissioner General Muzuthini Ntshangase is among 10 choirs that have been selected to compete in the Ekurhuleni Melting Pot Festival.


The festival which will see Correctional Services Choir being the only choir representing the country will take place at the Canival City Casino in Johannesburg on October 3.
The competition will be held for two days.

Already, the choir has confirmed their participation in the festival and the songs that have been prescribed for this year’s festival have already been given to the choir.
The choir conducted by Melisizwe is also expected to compete in two categories that have a cash prize of E500 000.
These categories include the Opera Category and the Oliver Tambo category and have a grand prize of E250 000 each.


The choir is expected to compete against 10 top South African choirs and these include Voices of the Nation, Bagale Chorus, Gauteng Choristers, Zwelitsha Adult Choir, Heavenly Voices, Serumula Performing Arts Academy, African Chorus, SA Singers and the Transnet Port Terminal.
Gcisa Mdlulwa, Melting Pot Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said they are expecting nothing but the best competition this year.

“We are excited to have a Swazi choir competing in the competition for the first time. This is a sign that choral music is growing. Correctional Services is known of displaying a good performance and therefore we expect nothing but the best,” she said.
