Compensation sought for farmer suicides

July 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hassan:

The Hassan district unit of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha staged a protest here on Monday, demanding Rs. 10 lakh each as compensation for families of farmers who committed suicide.

Members of the KPRS staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

The protesters blamed the State government for the suicides of sugarcane growers in the State.

The government had failed in its efforts to make sugar factories clear their dues, they said. KPRS leaders Nanje Gowda, Prakash, Vasanth Kumar and B.G.Revanna led the protest.
