TMC plans stall outside varsity

July 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Maanila Congress workers are planning to set up a stall outside Anna University on Tuesday to assist candidates attending engineering counselling. The party’s youth wing member, M. Yuvaraja, said a stall would be put up at the entrance of the university on Sardar Patel Road for the benefit of students. “We will be assisting candidates and provide information about colleges based on their cut-off,” Mr. Yuvaraja said.

University Registrar S. Ganesan said he too had received a text message in Tamil about the proposed stall. “We do not allow private institutions or political parties to set up stalls inside the campus. Colleges cannot distribute flyers or pamphlets within our premises. I have already informed the police about the TMC’s plan. We will be sending out a letter to the police,” he said. Every year, the university officials battle the menace of touts who lure candidates and their families with false offers.
