6 held; 34 stolen two-wheelers recovered

Over the last two weeks, the city police arrested six persons and recovered 34 stolen two-wheelers valued at Rs. 15.9 lakh.

Police Commissioner B. Dayananda told reporters on Monday that the arrested included Jabir from Holenarsipur town in Hassan district. The Devaraja police recovered 18 two-wheelers worth Rs. 9 lakh from him on Sunday.

The accused used to take away parked two-wheelers from K.R. Hospital, JSS Hospital and surrounding areas, besides the city railway station, by using duplicate keys.

Jabir used to sell the vehicles in Hassan and Holenarsipur by telling prospective buyers that he had bought them in an auction by banks. The Metagalli police on June 25 arrested Shahrukh and Nooruddin, both from Mandi Mohalla, and recovered 10 two-wheelers valued at Rs. 3.6 lakh. The duo used to take away vehicles parked in front of houses, K.R. Hospital, marriage halls and mosques.

The Udayagiri police arrested Mohammed Imran and recovered from him three bikes valued at Rs. 1.1 lakh. The NR Mohalla police also recovered two two-wheelers.
