The newly-refurbished Boca Bridge at Bulileka brought smiles to many people at Bulileka Village outside Labasa yesterday.

The Boca Bridge had been closed for three weeks because the damaged beams needed immediate replacement.

Comments

Bulileka village headman Taniela Yalobula said: “The 370 villagers will benefit a lot from the newly-refurbished bridge, especially the school students.”

He said students from the 48 households boarded the bus from in front of their homes and don’t have to walk to catch the bus.

Benefits

“Market vendors as well are now loading their goods from their homes to take it to the market in town.”

Settlements such as Waibulu, Anuve, Boubale would also benefit.

Waibulu farmer Arish Gupta said now famers could start carting sugarcane to the mill frequently.

“Time is running out while the mill is operating; we have to make use of the new bridge and start delivering our cane to the mill as soon as possible,” Mr Gupta said.

He said all the farmers that lived up the road from the bridge could produce more than 2000 tonnes of cane during the harvest.
