Bribe: FCI ex-manager convicted

July 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Monday convicted a former manager (quality) of Food Corporation of India (FCI) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from his colleague.

The court sentenced Giriraj Prasad Meena to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 for demanding the bribe promising to reduce railway transit loss for the foodgrains sent to Bengaluru by General Manager FCI Kulwant Singh in March last year from the Chandigarh branch. Meena not only demanded a bribe but also sent him details of his bank account.

Unable to bear the pressure, Mr. Singh deposited the amount and later filed a complaint with the CBI in Bengaluru.

“The charge sheet filed by the CBI proved beyond doubt that Meena had accepted the bribe based on which he was convicted,” Special Public Prosecutor (CBI) Shivananda Perla said.
