The pile of smouldering mixed building materials initially stood six metres high.

The area burning has reduced in size and the ACT Fire Brigade and workers from Canberra Concrete Recyclers are still undertaking their operation to ensure the fire doesn't jump containment lines.

An ACT Emergency Service spokesperson said that as the fire was not able to be put out, it would have to burn out, so crews were likely to stay on site for the next few days to isolate the burning waste and remove it.

ACT Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire service volunteers and SES crews have taken some impressive photographs while working all hours to contain the waste fire.

On Sunday, Commander Neil Maher said it was not expected asbestos or toxic products were burning. But fire fighters were wearing respiratory protection to be safe when close to the fire.
