New Delhi, July 6
The Supreme Court will hear the appeals of INLD leaders OP Chautala and Ajay Singh Chautala in the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam on July 21.
Appearing for former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala, senior counsel Puneet Bali pleaded for an urgent hearing as his client was 81-year-old and had 60 per cent disability.
In the appeal, Chautala has also sought bail as interim relief, pending disposal of his petition. Besides age and disability, he has also given details of a number of ailments he has been suffering from to justify his plea for bail.
A Bench headed by Justice FMI Kalifulla, however, couldn’t hear the case today as the other judge Justice UU Lalit has already opted out of all cases related to the scam in the recruitment of about 3,000 JBT teachers in 1999-2000 when Chautala was the CM.
Sentenced to 10 years in the case, both Chautala and his son, Ajay, are in Tihar Jail here.
