CBI books Andhra Pradesh MP for duping Punjab National Bank

In a setback to the YSR Congress, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Kothapalli Geetha, 44 , who occupies the Araku Scheduled Tribes seat in the Lok Sabha, for duping the Punjab National Bank of Rs.42.79 crores. The charge sheet is against her and the Visweswara Infra Company under Section 120 (b) (conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468, (forgery for the purpose of cheating) ,471 (using as genuine a forged document) and some other sections of the IPC.

The CBI has also filed charge sheet against some bank officials for conniving with her in the scandal. Geetha is a first time member of the Lok Sabha who defeated the well known UPA and Congress minister for Tribal Affairs Kishore Chandra Deo. Araku is the only ST constituency in Andhra Pradesh and is the second largest Lok Sabha constituency in the country.

But, with the YSR Congress finishing behind the TDP she began to gravitate towards the ruling party in the state as it is also a constituent of the NDA. But that partys chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was reluctant to admit her apprehensive of facing flak from the YSR Congress. However, she considers herself a member of the TDP and has been attending the party meetings. Now, it is turning out to be an embarrassment for the TDP too.

Geetha, a Group 1 officer of the Andhra Pradesh government turned - businesswoman is the daughter of K. Jacob, who was the first graduate from the tribal belt of East Godavari district and worked as a Deputy Collector. She topped the 1999 batch of the Group 1 of the AP Administrative Service and joined the state government the same year. She worked in various capacities before joining her husband in managing the Visweswara Group of companies.
