Police on Sunday interrogated the army man in connection with the death of his wife, Sheila Devi, whose body was found inside a steel box in her bedroom with injury marks on Saturday.

RANCHI: Police on Sunday interrogated the army man in connection with the death of his wife, Sheila Devi, whose body was found inside a steel box in her bedroom with injury marks on Saturday. Her husband, Mahendra Mahto, is with Indian Army and currently posted in Manali.
"He was interrogated by police officials investigating the case. His statements have been recorded.
He will be interrogated further during the course of the investigation," said city SP Jaya Roy said. Roy could not however reveal the information they gathered from Mahto during the interrogation.
"Our investigation has not thrown up many useful leads. We only found out that the couple would quarrel often. It is quite early to make a conclusive statement about the murder," Roy said.
The 35-year-old victim worked as an assistant at BIT Mesra library. According to her family members, Devi maintained good relations with everyone. They believe that her husband is behind her murder.
The deceased's brother Deepak Mahto told police that Mahendra Mahto and his wife were often engaged in domestic disputes. After a closer investigation of the crime scene, police believe that the woman was killed by someone known to her. Police also believe that Mahendra Mahto could be involved in the murder as his phone was untraceable on Saturday. Devi had dropped her husband to the Ranchi railway station on Friday.

Mahto had caught Jammu Tawi Express from on Friday from Ranchi railway station where his wife came to see him off. He returned back to Ranchi after police traced him and asked him to return after the murder of his wife.
