10 thousand workers dismissed from industrial giants of Belarus

Mass dismissals take place at Belarusian enterprises because of crisis.

Nasha Niva compared the number of employees as on the first quarter of 2015 with the same period of 2014 (the average numbers).

Enterprises with more than 3000 employees have been monitored. There are almost forty of them. Most of them have taken cuts.

Minsk Tractor Plant heads the list (minus 1319 employees). It is every thirteenth employee.

Belshina lost 1130 employees (every ninth employee), Navapolatsk Naftan - 928 (every 12th).

There were mass cuts in the construction industry. MAPID, a construction trust No.8, a construction trust No.3, Grodnopromstroj, Gomelpromstroj together put on the market about 2 thousand employees.

Homel ZLiN heads the list of those who have had the largest number of cuts. Every sixth employee of the company on production of agricultural machinery lost his job.

Thus, there are 9525 people at 29 enterprises lost their jobs.

BelAZ was the island of stability with 10739 employees remained (no dismissals observed).

Minsk Wheel Tractor plant (+470 employees) and Belaruskali (+317 employees) are the leaders for additional growth. 919 people have been employees at 10 enterprises.

As for the financial activity of enterprises, the situation appears extremely grave. On one hand, super successful Belaruskali and the Mozyr oil refinery (with 21 thousand employees for two) together received $290 million. But the rest 37 giants, with 210 thousand people, jointly earned only $1.5 million for the quarter.

It should be reminded that recently many enterprises have taken a short work week and employees have been forced to take unpaid leaves. Charter97.org has received complaints from such enterprises as Gomselmash, Osipovichi Automobile Units Plant, Svetlogorsk Ferro-Concrete Plant, Bobruisk Plant of Tractor Parts and Units, Mogilevtransmash, Strommashina, MTZ, Gomeldrev, Minsk Bearing Plant, Belarusian Railways, OAO Vitebsk products and others.
