BCA turns to police with plaint against Sanjay Patel, two others
VADODARA: Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has approached police with a complaint against former BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel and two others charging them with financial misappropriation. BCA secretary, Anshuman Gaekwad and other office-bearers recently met city police commissioner E Radhakrishana and gave an application urging the police to investigate the case and file an FIR. Radhakrishana has asked the detection of crime branch (DCB) to enquire into the application about financial misappropriation and act if there is any criminal offence.

“We met the police commissioner and gave him an application against Patel, former BCA secretary, Sachin Dalvi and former treasurer Arun Gandhi. Our application says that no procedure was followed while giving contract worth Rs 88 lakh for Motibaug dressing room renovation. The managing committee hadn’t approved the payment and also no tender was issued before taking up the work,” said advocate Kamal Pandya, member of BCA’s legal committee.
“We have urged the police commissioner to hand over investigation of the case to the crime branch and act further,” Pandya told TOI. When contacted, Radhakrishana said he has handed over the application to the DCB. “The crime branch will enquire into the application and file FIR if it finds any merit. If there is no criminal offence then the matter will be a civil case.”
The association decided to approach the police after taking legal opinion. The BCA managing committee had in April terminated membership of Patel, Dalvi and Gandhi after an inquiry committee found them guilty of financial misappropriation worth Rs 88 lakh. But BCA president, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad refused to acknowledge the decision of termination and claimed that he had adjourned the meeting before the decision was taken. Patel had also termed the decision as illegal.
Factionalism within BCA has been on the rise as the Revival Group led by Chirayu Amin and the other of Samarjitsinh don’t lose an opportunity to have a go at each other during the managing committee meetings. Recently, Samarjitsinh took a decision to reinstate Patel, Davli and Gandhi in a managing committee meeting attended by just four members out of 22.
