Students learn life skills at Don Bosco camp

Don Bosco School, Boko, in Kamrup district, organized a four-day inter-school camp for Scouts and Guides from July 2 to July 6 as part of the year-long celebrations of the bicentenary of the birth of Saint John Bosco, the Italian educator-saint and friend of the young.

GUWAHATI: Don Bosco School, Boko, in Kamrup district, organized a four-day inter-school camp for Scouts and Guides from July 2 to July 6 as part of the year-long celebrations of the bicentenary of the birth of Saint John Bosco, the Italian educator-saint and friend of the young.
The theme of the camp was "Grow Green and Keep Clean" and it began with a colourful inaugural programme.
Inaugurating the camp, Fr Johnson Parackal, executive director of Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli, Guwahati, urged the participants to make use of every opportunity offered to them in the camp to arm themselves with skills and become useful and productive citizens of the country.
Captain S Varma from the Army Unit, Boko, was guest of honour. Varma invited the young participants to consider joining the defence forces as a viable career option.
The camp, which was organized under the supervision of Fr Saju Kariyil, headmaster of Don Bosco School, Boko, and Fr Vincent Xalxo, rector of the school, brought under one umbrella a number of Scout Masters and Guide Captains from Assam and Meghalaya who trained the students in different skills.
The Army Unit demonstrated how to pitch a tent and exhibited different tools that the Army uses during its operations.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials from Guwahati familiarized the participants with the various forms of responses and skills that can be employed in saving human lives during disasters
