Twist in the tale
A day after the details of a transplant surgery performed at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were published in a medical journal six months after the surgery was performed, some newspapers highlighted the procedure. Within days, journalists from the electronic media arrived at the institute to follow the case and sought to know the patient’s condition. While digging out the records, it turned out that the patient died some months ago.

Campus notes
The presence of a considerable student population at Delhi University for the admission season seems to have attracted marketing executives to the campus. “We are just here to help the students make the right choice,” a marketing executive, looking to recruit student members, said.

Allowance order
The special fast track court which recorded the statement of the Danish woman, who was allegedly raped, has ordered allowance for the victim and two Danish police officers, who have come to India to depose in the case. “The allowance to be given to the witnesses includes travel, accommodation and food expenses. In Indian currency, the amount to be given to the victim and the two cops totals over
Rs 76,000, Rs 96,000 and Rs 96,000 respectively,” the court said.

Escaping violence
At Ballabhgarh, as violence erupted once again last week, police deployed teams to clear rooftops of potential troublemakers. But it was easier said than done. With temperatures soaring and the high humidity making the prospect of remaining indoors virtually impossible, many made their way to roofs and terraces. Some police officers deployed on the roofs came up with an ingenious solution to the problem. “Stay crouched on the ground or lie down. You won’t be seen by people who might attack you or our senior officers,” an officer said.

Cryptic smile
The Opposition was faced with an awkward moment in the Delhi Assembly during the Budget session when Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta was countered by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the Budget. Kejriwal apparently told the House that Gupta had praised the Budget over dinner. Gupta just smiled and gestured, denying it, but did not say much. The issue became a talking point during the session.

Yoga protest
At a protest organised by students and alumni of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) at Shastri Bhawan last week, police were left perplexed by the response of a protester when told that she could not raise her arms while shouting slogans. Police said that was not allowed. The protester said she was merely exercising and doing yoga, as prescribed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
