Cash-for-vote scam: TDP MLA to appear before ACB today

Notice served on Sandra Venkata Veeraiah on Saturday

The Anti-Corruption Bureau headquarters at Banjara Hills will again be in focus on Monday as another Telugu Desam MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah is expected to appear before the agency for interrogation in the cash-for-vote scam.

Mr. Veeraiah’s appearance before ACB has assumed significance because the agency had served a notice on him on Saturday under Section 41 A of Criminal Procedure Code, listing him as an accused. Mr. Veeraiah was served notice under Section 160 of Cr PC as a witness on the previous occasion on June 16, but he wrote back wanting exemption for ten days as he was unwell.

Following the release of TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy on bail granted by the High Court a few days ago, Mr. Veeraiah again wrote to the ACB saying he was ready for probe. Hence, the agency pasted the notice on the wall of his house at New MLA Quarters asking him to appear on Monday.

The ACB also issued notice to the coordinator of Hyderabad Cricket Association Jimmy Babu, who was reportedly identified by nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson as the person who introduced the latter to Mr. Revanth Reddy and two others Stephenson and Udayasimha, who were already arrested.

Sources said Mr. Veeraiah and Mr. Jimmy Babu apart, the personal assistant and driver of Mr. Revanth Reddy were also summoned to ACB office. The notice to Mr. Jimmy Babu came as a surprise to HCA which immediately issued a clarification saying it had nothing to do with the case.

He was also the general secretary of Telugu Yuvatha and a follower of Mr. Revanth Reddy. Mr. Stephenson reportedly referred to Mr. Jimmy Babu in his confessional statement to court that Mr. Sebastian would contact the former.
