Lakshmikanth Reddy G., son of Sharatchandra Reddy and Varalakshmi, a farmer couple from Gunjalli village in Raichur taluk, has secured the 21st rank in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam, 2014.
Second attempt
He has secured the second place among those who appeared for the examination from Karnataka. This was his second attempt.
Hailing from one of the most educationally and economically backward regions of the State, Mr. Reddy is presently working as senior financial consultant at a private firm in Hyderabad for the last four years. He had taken a leave for one year for preparations. Completing his primary education at Infant Jesus School in Raichur, he left for Alike in Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada to complete his high school at Satya Sai Lokaseva Trust.
He returned to Raichur to pursue pre-university education in the science stream at SRPS PU College.
He passed the PU exams with 88 percent and bagged 52nd and 153rd ranks in Medical and Engineering respectively in Common Entrance Test.
Though he joined a medical college in Bengaluru, he did not develop interest in medical education. As a result, he quit the medical college and joined P.E.S. Institute of Technology for engineering in computer science. Having secured 99 percent at Common Admission Test, he joined Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, for studying MBA.
He was selected at a campus interview when he was in his 7th semester and joined the Hyderabad-based financial and business advisory firm after completing the course.
“As every UPSC civil service aspirant, I too intensely readThe Hindufor the last several years. It greatly helped me emerge as one of the top 25. I would like to serve as Karnataka cadre IAS officer,” he told The Hindu over the phone.
