Bid to attack AIADMK panchayat chief

July 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - SALEM:

Tension prevailed at Mannayakkanpatti village near Vazhappadi late on Saturday evening when a group of miscreants allegedly attempted to attack Amuthavalli, AIADMK panchayat president. Police said a group of ten persons who reached Amuthavalli’s residence entered in to a wordy quarrel with her over the non-allotment of green houses. They suddenly attempted to attack Amuthavalli and also her husband who came to rescue. On hearing their cries for help, the neighbours rushed to the spot, following which the miscreants fled the scene.

Later the supporters of Amuthavalli damaged an auto in which the people who attempted to attack the panchayat president travelled.

Following tension, Vazhappadi police rushed to the village. As both the panchayat president and those who attempted to attack her belonged to rival castes, police rushed to the village. K. Veeramani, Additional Superintendent of Police, Shanmugasundaram, Deputy SP, Vazhappadi, held inquiries. On the complaints preferred by the rival groups, Vazhappadi police have registered two separate cases.
