Thoothukudi: In a case of suspected suicide, a college student was found burnt to death inside his college premises on Sunday morning near Thoothukudi.
Maharajan (19) son of Sudalaimuthu of Melakootudankadu village near Thoothukudi was studying third year physics in a private college at Sawyerpuram. The boy, a day scholar, did not return home on Saturday evening from college. His parents searched for him all night and complained to police. Meanwhile, early on Sunday, the charred body of Maharajan was found inside his college premises. Near the deceased’ body were found a petrol bottle and a matchbox.
On information, Sawyerpuram police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Thoothukudi government medical college hospital for autopsy. According to police, the boy was in love with one of his college mates but she did not reciprocate. Instead, her parents had taken the issue to his parents. Reportedly dejected for about a week, the student is suspected to have taken the extreme step of burning himself.
