AAP MLA takes potshot at BJP rival with DA charge
NEW DELHI: Delhi Cantt MLA Surinder Singh, has levelled allegations of disproportionate assets against his political rival Kanwar Singh Tanwar.
Singh, an AAP MLA, has claimed that Tanwar’s assets have gone up from Rs 1.73 crore in 2008 to Rs 17.88 crore in 2015.
Singh, who is under fire for an alleged fake degree, a disclosure by Tanwar, is clearly seeking to avenge the charges.
“I have complained about the disproportionate cases to the CBI. An MLA’s salary is around Rs 54,000, while Tanwar’s wife is an associate professor in a government college and will be earning about Rs 1.5 lakh a month. Together their salary would be around Rs 2 lakh. However, the two election affidavits show that the Tanwars have amassed a huge amount of property in the past few years. According to the service rules, Tanwar’s wife cannot work for any one else while she is an associate professor and hence will not have any additional income. Despite that, she has given a loan of Rs 33 lakh to her son and of Rs 14.5 lakh to her husband,” Singh alleged.
Tanwar, who lost the previous assembly polls to Singh, said he was only trying to deflect attention from his fake degree case which was up for hearing in court very shortly. “My wife earns around Rs 2 lakh each month, while my salary is around Rs 80,000, which includes pay for two data entry operators. We also get Rs 2 lakh as rent from our ancestral property. We have to state the market value of any property in the election affidavit. There has been a huge rise in land prices in the past five years which accounts for the rise in total assets,” he said.
